  1. Screenwriters Lab 2026 is open only to Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents.
     

  2. Applications must be submitted by individuals who will be participating in the programme; the individuals may be self-employed or current employees of companies/organisations authorised to work on the proposed IP.
     

  3. Team submissions of up to two (2) writers are permitted.
     

  4. Applicant may submit:

    • One (1) proposal as an individual applicant; and/or

    • One (1) proposal as part of a team submission.
       

  5. Once submitted, team composition and writing credits cannot be changed.
     

  6. Applicants must apply to only one track and are responsible for ensuring they meet the eligibility requirements of the selected track. Team submissions in which one member meets eligibility criteria in the Experienced track should be submitted in that track. Supporting documentation may be requested at any stage to verify eligibility.

Competition Rules

  1. Screenwriters Lab 2026 is designed to support original television series concepts.
     

  2. Submissions must:

    • Be scripted, episodic narrative television series concepts.

    • Be based entirely on original intellectual property owned by the applicant(s), or which the applicant(s) has been authorised to develop in this programme.

    • Not be adaptations, derivative works, or concepts based on existing intellectual property.

    • Be submitted in English.
       

  3. Each submission must include:

    • Working Title

    • Logline

    • Genre and Target Audience

    • Synopsis (of not more than 400 words), which should:

      • Present the central idea of the narrative;

      • Provide a clear sense of the story arc and structure, including major beats, climax and ending.

    • Character Overview (of up to 120 words), outlining the main characters, e.g. protagonists, antagonists and containing information such as:

      • Key motivations;

      • Character dynamics; and

      • Potential character arcs.
         

  4. Applicants are not required to submit a completed screenplay unless otherwise requested by the organisers.
     

  5. Each applicant may submit only:

    • One (1) individual proposal; and/or

    • One (1) team proposal.
       

  6. Where multiple submissions are received beyond the permitted limit, only the earliest eligible submission will be accepted. All subsequent submissions will be forfeited.

1. Emerging Track

 

Applicants must:

  • Have five (5) years or less of experience as a research writer and/or screenwriter; and

  • Have a sole or co-writing credit on at least one (1) short-form project that has been publicly screened or is scheduled for public screening by the submission deadline.

For the purposes of determining eligibility, “credit” is defined with the following parameters:

  • Both fiction and non-fiction narrative works will be considered.

  • Non-narrative corporate, commercial, and advertising videos will not be accepted.

  • Works uploaded solely to personal video-sharing or social media platforms will not be considered eligible.

  • Works presented through recognised third-party platforms, curators, commissioners, broadcasters, publishers, or exhibitors are eligible.

 

2. Experienced Track

 

Applicants must:

  • Have more than five (5) years of experience as a research writer and/or screenwriter; and

  • Have a sole or co-writing credit on at least one (1) feature film or episode of a long-form project that has been publicly screened, broadcast, or televised by the submission deadline.

 

For the purposes of determining eligibility, “credit” is defined with the following parameters:

  • Long-form projects include narrative feature films and television series.

  • Both fiction and non-fiction works will be considered.

  1. Applicants should ensure that all information submitted is complete and accurate.
     

  2. Concept materials cannot be amended once submitted.
     

  3. Personal and administrative details may be corrected before the submission deadline.
     

  4. Requests for amendments will be considered at the sole discretion of the organisers.
     

  5. No amendments will be accepted after the submission deadline.
     

  6. The organisers reserve the right to request additional materials, including but not limited to:

    • Writing samples;

    • Proof of authorship or writing credits;

    • Proof of eligibility; and

    • Documentation relating to intellectual property ownership.​​
       

  7. The Organisers reserve the right to reassign submissions to the appropriate track if they are found to have been submitted under the incorrect track.
     
  8. Failure to provide requested materials, or if any applicant is found to have omitted or misrepresented information, may result in disqualification.

  1. Applicants retain ownership of their submitted materials or have authorisation to participate with the IP, if said IP belongs to the company or organisation of their employment at the point of submission.
